How do people feel about the term "mad-menian?" Pronounced like "mad-men-e-anne," obviously derived from the television show.
I used the made-up adjective during a lively conversation last night, and at first, I thought it demonstrated my unwieldy possession of the English language, but now, I’m really glad my “spirit-forward” drink got me there.
In a jazz club in the Upper Haight, I couldn’t put my finger on the correct word for people’s affinity for dated or “classic” aesthetics and behaviors. (E.g. When people put plastic on their sofas, women were a bit more glamorous in the mundane, glass ceilings were only skylights, and I can only imagine, Coke tasted so much better then.)
I needed to express that "nostalgia" or misplaced love for a time that was never ours to begin with.
